On Sunday, January 12th, 2014, Bacchus Restaurant & Lounge was closed, the only day during the whole year, in order to host the Wedgewood’s 30th Annual Staff Christmas Party.
Following Eleni Skalbania’s passing late last year, her daughters, Marousa Dumaresq & Elpie Marinakis Jackson, have become co owners of the Wedgewood Hotel & Spa.
Elpie, as the Managing Director of the Hotel, gave a heart-warming speech to the Wedgewood’s Staff and family at the Staff Party. She started off her speech by reminiscing her Mother, who was dearly loved and admired by all her Staff during the past 30 years, “we lost our founder, creator, mentor, mother, friend, and role-model… our Mrs. S.”
She reminded everyone about her mother’s vision for opening Vancouver’s first luxury boutique hotel. “She worked hard throughout these past 30 years and made countless personal sacrifices, while never wavering from her absolute commitment to excellence & perfection – a great beacon for all of us to follow…”
Elpie continued by acknowledging the Hotel’s great successes during 2013, which were witnessed by Bacchus’ popularity and guests’ wonderful comments on the unparalleled service and quality of the hotel, restaurant and spa.
In 2014, Guests will enjoy many fabulous upgrades that were recently completed, such as new phones, Nespresso machines, a brand new state of the art fibre high-speed internet, HD imagery on all in-room TVs, and more…
Finally, Elpie thanked all the staff for their efforts over the years and presented them with various awards for their loyalty and commitment to the hotel, starting from 10 years, all the way to 30 years of loyal service.
She also heartily congratulated them for being recognized in the prestigious Condé Nast Gold List. Wedgewood has been voted #1 in Vancouver, #2 for all of BC, and #4 in all of Canada. What a great start for 2014!
